About These Projects: Vision & Nonprofit Role

Vision & Proposal: The projects shown here reflect GTHH’s community-based vision and proposals to advance heritage preservation, education, public access, and quality of life. They are intended to guide planning discussions and support grants and community engagement.

Our Nonprofit Role: GTHH acts in a charitable, educational, and planning capacity. We coordinate community input, prepare plans, and pursue grants for public-benefit improvements. GTHH does not develop, own, or operate private commercial enterprises. Any future private businesses related to these concepts would be independently owned and operated.

Current Projects

Organizational Startup & Capacity Building

Greater Toledo Heritage and Horizons is a newly formed nonprofit. To be effective, we must build the foundation that supports all our work — from setting up an office and meeting space, to covering legal and financial compliance, to creating the outreach and fundraising systems that sustain future projects. This capacity funding ensures we can operate responsibly, communicate with the community, and carry out the park campaign and other initiatives. It may also cover modest, mission-driven projects—like purchasing STEM supplies for student water-testing days—that help us engage the community even before major projects are completed.

STEM Initiatives & Projects

Hands-on, small-scale STEM activities that connect local students with real-world learning — starting with Toledo Schools' water-quality testing at Wallace Pond. These efforts are funded through GTHH Operations and designated gifts, and may include basic equipment purchases, teacher support, and volunteer coordination.

South County Park (Wallace Pond) — Acquisition, Repairs & Stewardship Campaign

South County Park (known locally as Wallace Pond) is a cherished but long-neglected public space. GTHH’s goal is to acquire and steward the park through the county’s surplus process, ensuring that it remains a permanent community asset. Once ownership is secured, we will address critical repairs and restoration needs — including restrooms, picnic shelters, docks, ramps, and pond health improvements — to make the park safe, clean, and welcoming.

As part of long-term sustainability, GTHH plans to operate small, mission-related revenue activities such as kiosk rentals and the Steamboat Toledo Theater. These facilities will be wholly owned and managed by GTHH, with all proceeds used to maintain the park and support the nonprofit’s charitable programs. This model ensures that every dollar generated directly benefits public recreation, education, and heritage preservation.
